FE MaXimizE : a Product that Delivers Confidence
Developed and tested by your peers working in FE, FE MaXimizE took as its starting point the framework originally developed in higher education and funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England. It is the result of an extensive R&D programme that drew on best practice in other service sectors and education management in 6 advanced counties. The HE version was tested and evaluated by HEIs prior to publishing.
Education institutions in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, as well as the UK, are using MaXimizE to improve their market orientation. These include TAFE Institutes in Australia (similar to FE), universities, polytechnics and tertiary institutes, and both private and state sector schools.
FE MaXimizE has been developed specifically for FE colleges through a project sponsored by the Learning and Skills Council.
The development team comprised seven marketing professionals, including four college marketing managers/directors, two experienced education consultants and a professor of marketing. Their role was to develop the framework of best practice, with direct contributions from college principals and LSC staff.
To test the evaluation processes and the value of the best practice framework to those that manage in FE, six colleges took part in pilot evaluations, four general colleges and two specialist colleges:
Preston College
West Herts College
East Berkshire College
Calderdale College
Plymouth College of Art and Design
Hereford College of Art and Design
As a result of the pilot the framework was amended in light of lessons learned and the methods by which colleges could evaluate against the framework was streamlined to improve effectiveness, value for money and ensure that all colleges in the sector could use the system – large or small, general or specialist and including sixth-form colleges.
