Further and Tertiary Education

For those in further education, the issues and complexities of training a post-16 education are diverse with managers expected to attract business support, engage with local communities, raise new funding streams and provide training opportunities for adult learners of all ages and backgrounds.

Sixth-form colleges may well be competing for pupils and funding with schools in their area. Adult and FE colleges have to work harder with local employers to provide training opportunities for vocational courses. The Knowledge Partnership can help those in post-16 education, including sixth-form colleges, and colleges of adult and further education with the following:
- Employer engagement studies
- Regionalism strategies
- Defining curriculum and education values
- Marketing strategies
- Benchmarking against regional competitors
- Creating effective communications strategies
- Developing pro-active relationships with key stakeholders (government, Learning Skills Councils, Businesses) in the education market.
Current work
In the UK, we have been working on a project sponsored by the National Learning and Skills Council and involving six FE colleges. Our team, which includes academics and FE specialists, has been evaluating marketing orientation in colleges and how to better integrate marketing with operational and strategic processes.
In Australia, we are working on a similar project with TAFE Queensland. In New Zealand we work with a number of polytechnics (see our Universities and HEIs section) all of whom also offer further education as part of their integrated portfolios.
