HEliX Internal Communications for Universities

HEliX is the evaluation and benchmarking system for good practice in internal communications for the higher education sector. Funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, HELIX is led by the University of Leicester with the Universities of Bristol, Edge Hill and Oxford Brookes forming the project group. The Knowledge Partnership is the specialist higher education consultancy supporting the project and conducting field work.

HEliX consists of a model framework and set of indicators or statements of good practice designed to enable a university or higher education institution to evaluate its staff communication practice and policies. It covers traditional top down communication (such as corporate newsletters), but also intra and inter departmental communications. HEliX also encompasses aspects of leadership, management practice and staff engagement that are critical to effective internal communications.

To access the HEliX Internal Communications Toolkit you need to register your details:

Your registration details allow us to monitor who has downloaded evaluation materials from the site. This enables general reporting to HEFCE as the number of HEIs that use the Helix materials is a metric used to evaluate the Helix project (funded through the Leadership LGM fund). Please note only the number of institutions using Helix is reported not the identity of those institutions.

Downloading these evaluation materials for use in your institution is free of charge. However, to enable you to benchmark your results against the sector norms there is an obligation on institutions who have completed some form of self-evaluation to supply their summary results to The Knowledge Partnership who maintain the national database. Please note the database is maintained on a confidential basis and the individual results of institutions are not released.
