Higher Expectations

Now in its seventh year, Higher Expectations is the definitive guide to student decision-making, satisfaction and sensitivity to fees.  It gives a detailed picture of the choices made by applicants when selecting their universities.  It helps universities understand how effectively they – and all of their competitors — are serving students.  It allows customers to benchmark their HEI against every UK University, helping institutions to make smarter decisions and argue effectively – internally and externally – for the right changes.

How it works

Each autumn OpinionPanel interviews 12,000 undergraduates from over 150 institutions, recruited specifically for its proprietary Student Panel. Fieldwork begins in November, when the application and admissions experience is still fresh in respondents’ minds. Every one of the 12,000 respondents is a full-time undergraduate and is screened to verify their status (the ‘ac.uk’ email address is confirmed).

Each student receives £10 for signing up to The Student Panel and then is interviewed using the more in-depth Higher Expectations questionnaire. Panellists get a further £1 for completing the survey (or more if institutions choose to boost their sample numbers). Personal details are protected at every stage – OpinionPanel adheres to all relevant MRS standards.  Results (raw data or reports) are available from April.

Which module?

Higher Expectations is available via six modules: four tailored packages, one ‘all you can eat’ buffet and a consultancy module. Each caters for different needs. For example, Module 2 provides comprehensive benchmarking.  Module 3, the customised institution report, goes deeper into demographic details. It’s also perfect for fine-tuning marketing strategies.  Module 4 provides deep insight into fee-setting and Module 5 offers the total data-set for in-house analysts. Finally, Module 6 offers the experience and insight of consultancy services from The Knowledge Partnership.
